The two crew members aboard the UPS plane that crashed near Dubai International Airport yesterday, have been confirmed dead. The state media of the United Arab Emirates confirmed late last night that the bodies of the two pilots had been recovered from the wreck of the plane; this is UPS’s first case of a fatal airplane crash ever.
Although there have been rumors that a fire caused the crash, UPS is still holding its tongue regarding the cause of the crash for the time being. “We will . . . release more information as it becomes available, in cooperation with government authorities. We will not speculate about the cause,” said Bob Lekites, UPS’s airline and international operations manager. “Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time.”
So for now, the cause of the crash remains a mystery, but you can be sure that between all of the parties involved with (and liable for) the crash, at least one of them should be able to determine why the plane went down; U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, representatives from Boeing as well as General Electric will all be going to the site itself to investigate the cause of the crash. It remains to be seen whether this will be done to bring closure, or simply to determine responsibility.
