Drew Carey no longer funny fat guy

Drew Carey, the current host of the long running Price is Right, has managed to shed 70 pounds! One of the reasons for the epic loss, Carey said, was to try to compete with the longevity of his predecessor, Bob Barker. He said part of his motivation was “so I can be looking that great at 86.” The 86 years is a reference to Bob Barker, born in 1923, who’s inhuman longevity allowed him to host the Price is Right for 35 years while remaining physically identical.
Given Barker’s longevity, and Carey’s recent improvement in physical health, one might argue that the hosting of the Price is Right itself contributes to physical health and longevity. Perhaps the phrase “come on down!” is actually a holy incantation that emboldens the sayer’s constitution and slows the aging process. Or perhaps Carey was tired of being fat: “I just got sick of being fat,” Carey told Us Magazine.
So, Carey is now healtier and perhaps happier, but at what cost? He can no longer claim to be a funny fat guy; one of the biggest staples in the comedy genre. He is now simply a funny guy (if that) which doesn’t have the same ring to it at all. I’ll leave it up to the reader to decide if he is even funny, or now simply just a guy.
