Ellen Leaves “American Idol”

After a much criticized season as the fourth judge on the popular reality TV show “American Idol”, comedian Ellen DeGeneres has been axed by Fox executives.
This comes with little surprise as the comedian has not favored well with audiences in her short one-year term as judge; and the show itself will be undergoing a serious overhaul to rejuvenate low ratings this year.
DeGeneres said in a press conference that the show “didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” as Fox continued to add turmoil to her stay. That coupled with DeGeneres’ other obligation, most notably her popular daytime TV talk show, has made it rather difficult for her to maintain the position.
DeGeneres noted that it was difficult to be critical of young talent, as she has been known for her kind and nurturing demeanor: “I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings,” she added.
DeGeneres replaced Paula Abdul as one of the judges at the beginning of this season, the ninth in the show’s history.
