A spokesperson for Julien Hug’s family confirmed today that the former Reality TV contestant was found dead in Riverside County. Hug, who is the son of a successful San Diego restauranteur, was a contestant on the Reality TV series “The Bachelorette” in 2009, when the show’s title bachelorette was Jillian Harris.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the body of an adult male was found around 11:00 a.m. yesterday off of Highway 73 in Pinyon Pines. Although authorities themselves have not revealed the identity of the body, Hug’s family has confirmed that it was his. Beyond their independent revelation of the body’s identity, the family is not currently talking to reporters. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death; for the time being, no more details are available.
The spokesperson mentioned above, Audrey Doherty, explains that the family is devastated and does not wish to speak publicly about Julien’s death. ”They’re just heartbroken about it, but they’re hoping to mourn privately,” she said, adding: “It’s pretty devastating.” Doherty also said that his family had lost contact with him 2 days previous to the discovery of his body, when his cell phone died.
Jillian Harris, an interior designer from Peace River, Alberta, Canada, and the above mentioned bachelorette who’s hand Hug competed for in 2009, gave her condolences via Twitter. “Please say a prayer for the loss of a friend this morning,” Harris wrote in an unusually coherent and literate “tweet”. “Life is fragile, don’t forget to love the ones you love,” added Harris.
