According to one of his bandmates, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has signed a deal to become the latest judge on the popular reality TV show “American Idol”.
Tyler, 62, is set to join the last remaining judge, Randy Jackson, after the departures of Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres. Rumors have pointed to the firing of songwriter Kara DioGuardi from the panel of judges as well.
Recent rumors have pointed to Tyler and singer/actress Jennifer Lopez becoming the latest judges after the show had decided to restructure the show because of poor ratings.
Aerosmith’s bassist Tom Hamilton told reporters that Tyler has already agreed on a deal.
“Steven is doing ‘American Idol.’ The ink is dry on that,” the newspapers quoted Hamilton.
Hamilton believes the opportunity is perfect for both Tyler and the show: “Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don’t know if ‘American Idol’ will be rock ‘n’ roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler.”
