The 2010 Jerry Lewis Telethon

Once again, 84-year old actor Jerry Lewis is ready to host the telethon of the same name in order to raise money for and awareness of muscular dystrophy.  Thus far, Jerry Lewis’ telethons have raised nearly $2.4 billion for the treatment of, as well as research for, muscular dystrophy; a disease which attacks muscle-controlling nerves and which can eventually cause death.

The 2010 Jerry Lewis Telethon will be the 45th telethon of its kind; as far as the expected earnings go for this years telethon: last year’s telethon raised nearly $60 million, and this year’s telethon is expected to raise even more.

The telethon, set to begin at 9pm this evening, will feature a number of celebrity guests; the most notable one perhaps being American Idol winner David Archuleta, who recently made the world aware of his future telethon presence by way of twitter.

Other stars appearing this year include Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias, octogenarian southern-rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, WAR (the 70′s funk band responsible for “Low Rider”), and many more, such as: John Ondrasik (otherwise known as “Five for Fighting”, OneRepublic, Barry Manilow, Herry Lewis, Alison Sweeney, Nancy O’Dell, journalist Jann Carl, Nigel Lythgoe, Richard Belzer, Ace Young, Brandon Barash, Billy Gilman, and John Pinette.
