End of Internet Privacy in America?

End of Internet Privacy in America?

The Obama Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, are approaching Congress to get authority to be allowed to search personal, and business communications that occur via the Internet. This action is not just limited to E-mail, but covers ‘other’ communications. If allowed, this will enable the FBI to freely read anyone’s communications without any warrant issued, nor any judicial over-seeing of the actions.

Calling them, ‘electronic transactional communications, the amendment to a 1993 bill, will even allow access to which web pages a person browsed, and when. The FBI will have the ability to issue a ‘national security letter’, which is essentially a ‘free’ pass to whatever information they decide they wish to view.

Privacy concerns are rising spectacularly as this is considered. Senator Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has even rallied and stated that the allowance of this amendment would cause, “serious privacy and civil liberties concerns.”The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU, added “incredibly bold, given the amount of electronic data the government is already getting.”  Talk about this considered action is lighting up the Internet, especially vast groups, such as the Tea Party Movement, as the people are feeling very insecure in trusting the government with that much power being unleashed with no form of oversight.
