A UPS cargo plane crashed in Dubai today, and the two crew members on board are believed to have been killed. An official from the United Arab Emirates said that the plane crashed due to technical difficulties during an attempt to land at Dubai International Airport.
Kristen Petrella, a spokeswoman for UPS said that the plane, a Boeing 747-400, crashed around 8:00 PM; UPS has not officially confirmed the deaths of the two crew members, but they did send their regards to their families in a statement: “This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause. Our thoughts go out to the crew members involved in the incident and their families.”
Several conflicting accounts of where exactly the plane went down have emerged: the state news agency in Dubai, known as Wam, is saying that it went down in an unpopulated area, somewhere in the desert; at the same time, posters on the Professional Pilots Rumour Network have suggested that the plane went down in an area called the “Silicon Oasis”; and thirdly, local reports are saying that the plane went down close to a busy highway intersection just south-east of the Dubai International Airport.
