Glenn Beck’s new website: The Blaze

Posted on 31. Aug, 2010 by in Other

Glenn Beck has recently launched a website called “The Blaze”: a new source for news and “opinions”.  According to Beck himself, “The Blaze” will be “a place where you can find breaking news, original reporting, insightful opinions and engaging videos about the stories that matter most.”  Wow!  That sounds wonderful; and just like what every other news site/agency says about itself.

As Beck reportedly earned something in the neighbourhood of $32 million last year through a combination of radio, television, books, digital media, and speech-making, this new “fiery” project simply must be a labour of love.  Glenn Beck on mainstream news sources: “Too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas.”

Beck also added this perlexing comment: “Not that you’ve ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice. But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website.” So, in other words, Beck is saying: “I don’t complain about the media, but it’s time for me to stop complaining and start acting” (!); if Glenn Beck really wants to create a legitimate news site, he would first have to heed this message: “the platitudes you are slinging are out-of-sync”.
