Louisiana Reopens Fishing Areas in Gulf

Louisiana has reopened key commercial fishing areas that were closed as a result of the catastrophic BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a statement released by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
The news will be taken very well by local fishermen who have been sidelined as a result of the spill.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries opened up specific areas to allow the fishing of shrimp and finfish east of the Mississippi in New Orleans, St. Tammany, St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes yesterday the statement read.
This comes after positive signs from BP’s new oil cap that has said to block as much as 60,000 barrels of oil per day from leaking into the ocean. BP are also planning on pumping mud into the well and maybe even plugging any potential leaks with cement.
“This is great news for our fishermen and seafood, processors who have been sidelined because of the oil spill,” Jindal said in the statement. “While these reopenings are a positive step, we continue to urge the FDA to test samples from the waters that remain closed so commercial fishermen across our coast can get back on the water.”
