Palin/Beck event sparks controversy

Posted on 11. Sep, 2010 by in Other

An event today in at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center featuring both Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck has drawn a lot of fans to commemorate the September 11th attacks of 9 years ago. The reportedly thousands of fans who showed up for the event had to pay between $73.75 and $225 just to get in.

However, aside even from the excessive price tag, the event has also drawn criticisms to the effect that Palin and Beck are actually hate-mongering and promoting intolerance under the guise of a September 11th anniversary commemoration.  “We feel that they are inciting racism in what they do and what they say and how they go about it,” said Lynette Moreno-Hinz, a member of the reported 200 or so protesters who gathered nearby the event.

Palin, however, announced on her Facebook page that the event represented the best way to commemorate the September 11th attacks: “I can think of no better way to commemorate 9/11 than to gather with patriots who will ‘never forget,’” posted Palin, or perhaps posted someone from a company that Palin pays to post crap on twitter, facebook, and suchlike.

Protesters, despite characterizing the Palin/Beck event as a “hate gathering”, said they were committed to having a peaceful protest.

Whether it was a hate-in or not, I hope to hear about the content of their talks.
