New British Prime Minister David Cameron is set to have his first talks with U.S President Barrack Obama, as Afghanistan, the BP oil leak and the global economy will be the focal points.
Cameron told newspaper reporters that the U.K will be “hard headed” when it comes to U.K-U.S relations: “We are the junior partners,” we wrote.
Although earlier he said he had no time in his schedule, Cameron said he will meet with four U.S senators about the Lockerbie bomber’s release. A spokesperson for Cameron wanted to make it known that the victims cannot be ignored: “”The prime minister recognizes the strength of feeling and knows how important it is to reassure the families of the victims. We are happy to see them face to face and find time in the diary.”
“When I see President Obama this week we have a very clear common agenda: succeeding in Afghanistan, securing economic growth and stability at home and across the world, fighting protectionism.
“And on one issue in particular, Lockerbie, let me be absolutely clear there’s no daylight between us.”
According to reports, four senators from New York and New Jersey desire an investigation over allegations that BP wanted to release Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.
