Obama speaks of being “shellacked” at press conference today

President Obama discussed the outcome of the mid-term elections, among other things, at a press conference today. The President said that he was humbled by the “shellacking” the Democrats took at the polls on Tuesday. So far, however, the President is not being petty about the outcome: he also said that he was ready and willing to sit down with the opposition to work things out. “I am very eager to sit down with members of both parties and figure out how we can move forward together,” the President said.
On the other hand, the President has also made it clear that there are certain issues that he will not budge on, such as health care, environmental energy, and and tax policies; all issues that Democrats and Republicans are quite sharply divided on.
The President also suggested at the conference that the Democrats’ loss may have had something to do with the public’s frustrations concerning the economy and employment; he also suggested that his duties as the President may have caused a separation between himself and the American people. “There is an inherent danger in being in the White House and being in the bubble,” the President said.
The President also expressed his interest in getting closer in touch with America’s business community; however doing this without scrapping the new regulations which the business community abhors, may be difficult. The President felt, however, that he could find “the right balance” between these new regulations and just generally being pro-business anyway.
