R.I.P: NFL Hall Of Famer George Blanda Passes Away Today At 83

With a 26-year career in the NFL, George Blanda was no doubt an icon of his era.  Today, at 83 years old, George Blanda has passed away.

Compiling more than 2,000 points in his profound career, it is no secret that George Blanda distinguished himself as both a quarterback and a placekicker.  The Oakland Raiders made the official announcement earlier this afternoon.

George Blanda played for multiple teams throughout his astounding NFL career, including the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Colts, and Houston Oilers.  During his time, he threw a total of 236 touchdown passes.

A Pro Football Hall of Famer, George Blanda passed away of what is being described as a brief illness.

Among his accomplishments mentioned above, he also won NFL Player Of The Year in 1970.  George Blanda’s good friend, Al Davis, described him as “the greatest clutch player the game of football has ever known.”

What many do not know about George Blanda is that his 26-year pro football tenure is the longest in the history of the sport.  Of those 26, 10 seasons were with the Chicago Bears, a part of one with the Baltimore Colts, 7 were played with the Houston Oilers, and the remaining 9 with the Oakland Raiders.

Scoring a total of 2,002 points in his illustrious career, George Blanda will be remembered and honored by many.
