On Wednesday during the Apple announcement by Steve Jobs, several issues were discussed, including the new iPod and Apple TV. However, Steve Jobs also questioned some of the figures reported by other companies, specifically referencing to Google Android Froyo upgrades.
Many believe Steve Jobs was referring to Google when he talked about companies misreporting their upgrade figures. For instance, it was stated that for Apple, there are close to 230,000 iOS activations each day. Other companies, particularly Google, are reporting roughly 200,000 activations each day. Steve Jobs believes that this figure includes Android Froyo 2.2 upgrades.
Many mobile device users have models that once ran Google Android 2.1 and have now upgraded to Android 2.2. Steve Jobs believes that the performance figures reported by Google include these upgrades.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt responded and has stated that the reported Google Android figures do not include upgrades, contrary to Apple’s belief.
It was actually stated by Google that Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade activations have been understated and that the company is looking to provide more accurate figures.
On another note, it is estimated that 300,00 Symbian devices are being sold each day, a remarkable rate.
It is estimated that Google sells almost 18 million Android devices each quarter.
Check with your local phone provider to see if your model is eligible for an Android Froyo upgrade.
