Israeli, Lebanese soldiers exchange gunfire

According to Israeli and Lebanese security sources, the two countries have exchanged gunfire near the countries shared border. The same sources said that one Lebanese soldier as well as one civilian were wounded during the exchange. Apparently the skirmish occurred after Israeli soldiers tried to take a tree from the Lebanese side of the border.
For the time being, UN peacekeepers situated in Lebanon are telling both sides of the international tree-feud to exercise “maximum restraint.” Another spokesman for the UN in Lebanon said that UN is doing everything that it can to “restore calm” near the border region. It is likely safe to say that this conflict, although minor, is not really about trees. The reason that UN forces are in Lebanon to begin with is to monitor the existing cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group.
In 2006 the two, namely Israel and Hezbollah, fought a war that lasted for 34 days. It was reported that during the clash 1200 Lebanese were killed (most of whom were civilians) in addition to 160 Israelis. This particular conflict resulted from Hezbollah’s kidnapping of 2 Israeli soldiers as well as conducting a cross-border raid that killed others. The status of the tree was left unreported.
