The majority of Pakistanis still view their neighbor India as a major threat to the nation amidst continuing terrorist attacks, as well as seeing the United States as one of their major enemies, according to reports. They also do not see Al Qaida or the Taliban as a threat to their nation.
According to the prestigious Pew Research Centre opinion poll carried out inside Pakistan, Pakistanis have serious concerns regarding their neighbor and extremist groups within Pakistan, while they are wary of any American presence.
“When asked which is the greatest threat to their country – India, the Taliban or al-Qaida – slightly more than half of Pakistanis (53 per cent) choose India, compared with 23 per cent for Taliban and just 3 per cent for al-Qaida,” the poll said.
However, regardless of this tension, many Pakistanis wish for better ties with India. 72 percent of people polled said that it is important that ties with India improve, while nearly 75 percent stated that further talks are needed.
Those polled also showed little concern regarding the Taliban, with less than 25 percent believing that a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan would be bad.
